7th League Day

Hi all.

Today was the 7th league day of the Wellington Handball League and unfortunately both women games were cancelled due to lack of players in the majority of teams (hint: school holidays).

The Vikings men team faced the Hutt Hawks and we were prepared to face a physical strong opponent who will surely fight for the win. We also had a few players who couldn’t make it today (Luke, Sam K, Pierre) and therefore we were kind of thin on the bench with just one sub and the second goalie.
The first 15 minutes of the first half the Vikings defense was not up to speed and allowed the Hawks to score quiet easily to keep in touch and on eye sight (2:2, 7:7). The second part of the first half the Vikings finally started to play better defense and the reasonable fluid ball movement in attack brought us some great looks and scoring opportunities that we mostly converted into goals (21:16 at Halftime). The second half was than mainly a one team show as the Vikings pulled away (29:21, 33:22) and the final standing was 39:26. The Hawks were missing a couple of key players and also had two players playing who are currently nursing through some injuries – so well done to them to pulling through a full game of Handball. Well Done as well to the Vikings team for digging deep in this game.
Vikings men: Petr, Sam G; Todd 13, Daniel 7/2, Emmanuel 6, Jack 4, Nino 3, Frederic 3, Nicholas 3

Next weekend (Sunday, 19/7/2015):
